Dose of Beauty: Hands Down

Do you ever stop and check out people’s hands? I have a bit of an obsession with it, I love seeing hands that have lived a life, especially people who work with their hands. There’s nothing more beautiful than Georgia O’Keeffe’s young unmarred hands in this famous Stieglitz photo. But I find hands that have a story to tell are even more interesting. These are the same hands 36 years later at Ghost Ranch, New Mexico.

To me they’re still beautiful and much more powerful. I used to be self-conscious about the veins on my hands when I was younger, but now they just remind me of my dad, who had similar hands. But of course as our hands become more “lived in” we still want them to be as smooth and feel as soft as possible. I came across The Organic Pharmacy’s Ultra Dry Skin Cream, a serious miracle formula that heals and restores dry skin like nobody’s business. You can use it anywhere on the body and it’s gentle enough to use on babies too. Best of all, The Organic Pharmacy is donating proceeds from the sale of every tube of Ultra Dry Skin Cream during the month of October to The Haven Breast Cancer Centers in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month.

I’m a long time fan of this luxurious skin care line–they use the best organic ingredients free from all the toxic ingredients commonly found in mainstream cosmetics and every Organic Pharmacy product that I’ve ever tried has performed amazingly.

What are your thoughts about hands and how do you take care of yours?

  1. I pay attention to people’s hands too. I think it’s important to take proper care of your hands, but I love to see hands that have a story to tell too. Thank you for sharing your opinion about this product. It’s something I would like to try. I’m using a locally made, organic hand cream, containing sea buckthorn and olive oil and I’m very happy with it.

  2. I’m obsessed with hand lotion now. LOL Since finding out about how they age and such. But I have the uttmost respect for hands that have worked hard.

  3. I keep mine simple and clean because I use my hands a lot at home and at work including driving. The less fuss the better. But I love to lather it with hand lotion especially the Shea Butter from L’Occitane.

  4. I do as well, I like when people talk with their hands as well ๐Ÿ™‚ I try and take good care of my hands as well. I think hands can say so much about the person, what they do, how much they take care of themselves or work. This product sounds wonderful. Happy Monday doll xx

  5. I am one of those people who talk with their hands!:-) I love hands, especially photographed ones. They tell a story to me and they don’t have it be perfect; calloused, smooth, big, etc,. I find them all interesting. I however, try to keep my own smooth and as soft as possible courtesy of my kiddos cetaphil and or aquaphor:-)

  6. I do notice people’s hands (and teeth for some reason). Some people really do have such beautiful, elegant hands. I try to use lotion a bit more and take care of my hands!

  7. i remember when was little and i saw a photo of mother theresa’s hands and i thought they were the most beautiful things i had ever seen. i used to hope i would grow up and have really wrinkled hands, now, not so much. but i love that memory and i think if i live to as old as she did and work at what i love i will love my wrinkled hands too.

i am a lotion addict! good hand creams are the best.

  8. I have really small hands and I call them child hands lol ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s important to take good care of your skin and I do love Georgia Okeefe hands – her hands completely tell a story.

  9. I haven’t paid much attention to this before, but all I know that when it comes to my own hands, i am obsessive about hand serums and lotions. I hope you have a fantastic week ahead darling.

  10. Ha! Totally love this theme for a post. You are spot on Mary Jo!
Firstly, my feet and my hands are probably two things on my body that I take care of the most. Even if I have chipped nail varnish on, that is a choice, and I’d like to think, it looks nice.
I really, really dislike seeing people not taking care of their hands, and dirty finger nails are the biggest turn off in the world.
In fact, if a guyhas nice hands, I am kind of half way there ๐Ÿ™‚

As for hand creams (and foot creams for that matter), I like to try new things out. What you have suggested sounds good.

Also, thank you so much for your lovely comments on my blog. Your comments always brighten up my day.

Have a lovely rest of the week.

    Red xx

  11. I think this as well, it’s funny I always look at someone’s hands and their mannerisms. For care: I use natural moisturisiers, especially for the cold seasons. Great product from organic Pharmacy. Have a lovely week.

  12. this is interesting…it was just this weekend that i started using my jo malone hand cream again…i had glanced down saw the hands of snow white’s witch….

  13. I am obsessive about putting on handcream and yet my hands are ghastly. Knobbly spotted and wrinkly. And I never wear rings, don’t have any wedding rings even. Then my sister brought me one back from Afghanistan and I parade them about willy nilly

  14. I haven’t used that hand cream but will hunt it down after your great review! I take good care of my hands, but they are not as pretty as I’d like. What I do love is how capable they are. I apply sunscreen throughout out the day, use moisturizer constantly, but don’t fuss with polish much. My hands are too busy for it to hold up.
    Have a great week!

  15. Keeping my hands in reasonable order is a constant work in progress especially in winter. When I look at my hands now they look exactly the same as my mothers when she was a similar age. Spooky!! I will try the cream.

  16. As much as weathered hands tell a story, I like mine to be soft and smooth please! Hand cream is definitely the way to go. The Organic Pharmacy one sounds super luxe!

  17. I love hands because they’re capable of so much. This hand cream sounds incredibly luxe and lovely! I love that they’re supporting BCA month as well and think I may have to pick up a tube for a double dose of good.

  18. Hi !!!!!
Hope you had a great weekend!!!!!
I talk with my hands all the time.
I try and use heavy moisturizing creams keep them moisturized and always a sunscreen even in the winter…..

  19. I am quite happy that my hands have no visible veins yet at my age 40+
but that product could be so good and wonderful for those who needs it.
