Black and White

“Black-and-white always looks modern, whatever that word means.”

~ Karl Lagerfeld

I love the crispness of black and white, especially when everything else including the weather is a shade of gray.  I’m also glad that it’ll be so easy to move seamlessly from winter whites and blacks into the strong black and white trend for spring and summer. Above are some runway looks that I’m looking forward to.

Have you noticed how black and white accessories are working almost like a neutral these days? To me, there’s something so classically romantic about black and white.

Obviously I’m partial to my own collection, but there are many great choices out there. And while we’re on the subject, I just wanted to quickly say thank you to everyone who stopped by our Three Day Flash Sale and also give a hug and thank you to those who were kind enough to mention it on your blogs and social media. It really made me smile to see so many blogger friends scoring some of the great deals.

And now, to something which is definitely not black and white. Such sad news that Philip Seymour Hoffman is gone. To my old friend Lisa, who invited me to lunch with him that day long before he was famous–thank you. My crush never stopped but my heart really did when I heard the news.

Thank you PSH for being you, and just so great.

So friends, how does this Monday find you? Feeling black and white or a shade somewhere in between?

  1. I live in black in white all the time, its so classic and thats a greta purse. So sad about PSH, amazing that you got the chance to meet him. Thanks for taking the time out of your busy day to stop by 🙂

  2. I love you B&W pieces and am really embracing this classic combination. We are going to Bali in about a week and to keep things simple I was planning on packing black and white (with a touch of grey) and looking for ways to incorporate color once we get there…

  3. B&W is one of my favourite combinations and I would love to wear that first dress this spring. Plus, I adore your accessories. Kisses, lovely.

  4. Black and white is always a good choice. Right now I’m feeling black. RIP PSH. He was an amazing actor.

    xx Mira

  5. Not sure what happened to my comment before— so if you are getting this twice, forgive me!

Anyways, I really love B&W combo both for how sophisticated it is and also the simplicity. We are heading to Bali next week and I am planning on packing in all B&W (with a touch of grey). I figure things will be interchangeable this way and I can find ways to add color if I want once I am there…

  6. So upset to hear about Hoffman’s death – I have loved that man since ‘Almost Famous’. 🙁

  7. To be honest, I couldn’t believe it when I heard the news. I just think it’s so very unfair whenever somebody so talented goes so early… 🙁
On a positive thought – I adore your idea of playing with white tulips as props – gorgeous result! x

  8. I still can’t believe that Philip Seymour Hoffman is gone. He was one of the best and only a few days ago I was reading bout his new film, A Most Wanted Man, which premiered at Sundance – every new movie of his was a promise for great acting and another memorable role.

On to the classic black and white, there is that Bill Blass quote, “Whenever in doubt, wear red”, well, for me it goes “whenever in doubt, wear black and white.” I absolutely love how you styled your beautiful designs, that’s just the perfect setting. It feels wonderful to know that spring is so close. 🙂

  9. B&W is really gorgeous, I always enjoy wearing it when I need a break from things. It always helps clear my head. Very sad news about Phillip Hoffman…drugs are just so bad and I think more needs to be done for people who can’t stop or suffer from other things that causes them to use bad stuff like that as an escape. Really so sad. I hope you have a gorgeous new week 🙂 xx

  10. Love this photo of PSH, Until I went to wiki had no idea how many incredible movies he made. That photo arrangement with the tulips is just lovely

  11. I have just bought a pair of black ankle length trousers and a crisp white shirt. Can’t wait to wear them. It is such a simple and effective combination.
